How to list an AI certification on your resume and LinkedIn
One line in a Certifications section: the exact name, the issuer, the date and a link anyone can check. Here is the format, with examples for common AI credentials.

List an AI certification in a section called Certifications, on one line. Give the credential’s exact name, the issuer, the month and year, and a verification link. Add the same item to the Licenses & Certifications section of your LinkedIn profile. Then mention the skill once in an experience bullet, so the reader sees where you used it.
Where it goes on the page
- Most resumes: a Certifications section after Experience and before Education, or after Education if your degree is recent.
- When the job posting names the credential: move the Certifications section higher, under your summary, so a reader sees it in the first few seconds.
- University certificates that carry academic credit: these can sit in Education with the university’s name.
Keep the section short. Three credentials that match the job read better than ten that do not.
The one-line format
Use this order: credential name, issuer, date, link. Add an expiry date if the credential has one. Here is how that looks for common AI credentials:
- Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals, Microsoft, March 2026. Verify: your Microsoft Learn share link.
- AWS Certified AI Practitioner, Amazon Web Services, June 2026, valid to June 2029. AWS lists this certification as valid for three years (AWS).
- IBM Generative AI Engineering Professional Certificate, IBM via Coursera, May 2026. Verify: your Coursera certificate link.
- Claude Certified Associate: Foundations, Anthropic, August 2026. Verify: your Credly badge link.
- Career Essentials in Generative AI, Microsoft and LinkedIn, certificate of completion, April 2026.
- AI Foundations, OpenAI Academy, course badge, September 2026.
The dates above are examples. Use your own.
Use the issuer’s exact words
Copy the credential name from the issuer’s page, not from memory. Two reasons make this matter.
First, search. Applicant tracking systems let recruiters search resumes for keywords. Greenhouse documents that a keyword must match the words in the application exactly (Greenhouse). “Azure AI Fundamentals” and “Microsoft AI certificate” are different strings.
Second, accuracy. Call each credential what its issuer calls it. OpenAI states that its Academy badges and certificates of completion are not certifications (OpenAI Help Center). A LinkedIn Learning path ends in a certificate of completion. Write “course badge” or “certificate of completion” where that is what you hold. A recruiter who checks will find the same words.
Verification links, issuer by issuer
A link lets an employer confirm the credential in one click. Each issuer provides it differently:
- Microsoft: share your transcript or a certification from your Microsoft Learn profile. The profile must be public for others to verify it. Verified credentials carry an Online Verifiable tag (Microsoft Learn).
- Coursera: each certificate has a verification link. The certificate states that Coursera has verified your identity (Coursera).
- LinkedIn Learning: turn on Share my certificate link. Anyone with the link can view the certificate without signing in. It shows your name and completion date (LinkedIn Help).
- Anthropic: passing a Claude certification exam earns a digital badge through Credly (Claude blog).
- OpenAI Academy: course badges are issued through Accredible (OpenAI Help Center).
On a PDF resume, make the link clickable. On a printed resume, use the shortest form the issuer offers. Do not paste a long tracking URL.
Adding it to LinkedIn
For a LinkedIn Learning course, use Add to profile from your Learning History. LinkedIn also adds the course’s skills, and you can clear any that do not fit (LinkedIn Help). For other issuers, look for an Add to Profile button on the issuer’s badge or certificate page. LinkedIn notes that the certification details do not fill in by themselves, so you enter them (LinkedIn Help).
Fill in every field the form offers. Use the same name, issuer and date as on your resume. Paste the verification link into the credential URL field, so a profile visitor can check it.
Connect it to your experience
A certification line says what you studied or passed. An experience bullet says what you did with it. Put the two together. For example: “Applied retrieval methods from the IBM Generative AI Engineering certificate to build an internal policy search tool. Every answer links to the source page.”
Do not repeat the full credential name in the bullet. Name the skill, and let the Certifications section carry the title. AI skills to put on your resume has bullet patterns by role.
Mentioning it in a summary or cover letter
A summary line or cover letter can name one credential when the job asks for it. Keep the claim to what the credential shows, and tie it to work. Three examples:
- Summary: “Operations analyst with AWS Certified AI Practitioner (2026), using generative AI tools for weekly vendor reporting.”
- Cover letter: “I passed Microsoft’s Azure AI Fundamentals exam this spring, and I now use Copilot to draft first-pass reports that I check against our source data.”
- LinkedIn About section: “Completed Anthropic’s AI Fluency course in 2026. I use Claude daily for research summaries, and I verify every citation before sharing.”
Each example names the credential once, gives the year, and then moves to what the person does. That order answers a hiring manager’s next question before they ask it.
What to leave off
- Courses you started but did not finish.
- Certifications that have expired, unless you have renewed them.
- A long list of short completion certificates. Group them on one line, such as “LinkedIn Learning: four generative AI courses, 2026.”
- Any credential you cannot describe in an interview.
If you are still choosing which credential to earn, course certificate vs skills assessment explains what each kind proves.
Listing an Emeri certification
An Emeri certification is reported as a band from E1 to E4 (bands). On a resume, write it with the band, such as “Emeri Certified, E2 Proficient, Emeri, October 2026,” followed by the verification link. The badge page has a LinkedIn option that fills in the name, issuer, date, credential ID and verification link. The credential does not expire. The free check takes about 15 minutes, if you want to see your likely band first.
