Your role

AI skills for customer support professionals

Support teams now use AI across the queue. It drafts replies, summarizes long ticket threads, suggests tags, and writes first versions of help-center articles. Many teams also review answers that a chatbot sends before a person sees the ticket. The tools are the same from team to team. The results are not.

Some agents send replies that sound polite and miss the question, or quote a refund rule that changed last quarter. Others send accurate, specific replies faster than before and know which sentences to verify. This guide breaks that difference into the six skills Emeri measures. Each skill page has tasks from support work, a description of each band from E1 to E4, common mistakes, and a worked example.

  1. 1

See where you stand. A free check of the six skills, about fifteen minutes.

  2. 2

Build the skills. Free guides and courses that fit support work.

  3. 3

Prove it. One examined sitting, then a grade anyone can verify.

Where AI shows up in the work

Replies and macros
First drafts of replies, saved macros, and responses in a second language. AI writes fluent text quickly. The skill is a reply that answers this customer’s question and states the policy correctly.
Ticket summaries and handoffs
Condensing a long thread before an escalation, a shift change, or a handoff to engineering. The risk is a tidy summary that drops the detail the next person needed.
Triage and tagging
Sorting incoming tickets by topic, urgency, and product area. AI can suggest a tag in seconds. A wrong tag sends a ticket to the wrong queue, and the customer waits longer.
Help-center content
Turning resolved tickets and release notes into articles customers can follow on their own. Every step in an article has to match the product as it works today.

Questions

What AI skills do customer support professionals need?

Emeri measures six: asking well, giving good context, checking the work, putting it together into workflows, getting real work done, and keeping it safe. In support, checking the work and keeping it safe tend to matter most. Policy accuracy and customer personal data are where AI-assisted replies most often go wrong.

Will AI replace customer support professionals?

Emeri does not make predictions about jobs. AI does change which parts of support work take time. Drafting and summarizing are faster, and chatbots answer some questions without an agent. Judgment about resolutions, policy, tone, and customer data still sits with people. That judgment is what these guides and the Emeri assessment focus on.

How can I tell what level my AI skills are at?

Read the band descriptions on each skill page and compare them with how you handle tickets today. For a measured result, take the free Emeri check. It takes about fifteen minutes and gives an indicative band across all six skills.

Are these example tasks from the Emeri exam?

No. The tasks on these pages are written for learning and are never exam questions. The certification uses its own scenarios, graded against the same six skills.
